Are you a night owl, or an early riser? The reason may be written in the stars! Of course, you're always better off listening to your body and the stars here - even if that means hitting the hay earlier than you'd like in order to secure those extra minutes. You might find yourself getting more sick, tired, or hostile if you're skimping on those zzz's!
All this aside, it is fun to think about behaviour categorisations and what they might tell us about ourselves. So - without further ado, here’s where your star sign fits in:
Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
These people are not sleepy heads! They stay up very late thinking about new plans, strategies, people around them, the future and even about themselves and how others perceive them. Some of the remedies to their unhealthy sleeping habits for Aquarians include meditation, and keeping away from screens and gadgets since they facilitate sleep procrastination. Your creative mind means it's very hard to switch off at night and get some sleep. You may be well used to getting as few as six hours a night - but that can be improved! Some simple meditation or yoga can help you get the hours of rest you so dearly need.
Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
They’re the dreamers of the zodiac so it’s not surprise that Pisces need their sleep the most. That’s because they are so sensitive, empathetic and intuitive, and all these qualities of emotional intelligence require sleep to nurture them. But, thanks to their keen imagination and escapist streak, Pisces don’t just need sleep, they look forward to it. Dreaming is a time for a Pisces to open their mind to new possibilities. Ideally, Pisces need the full eight hours of sleep each night, and they’re going to enjoy every second of it.
Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Passionate, ambitious and driven, an Aries can survive on very little sleep - it’s all part of their desire to get more done in a day. For Aries, sleep could be seen as a waste of time. As such, it’s very possible that an Aries could get by on the bare minimum of sleep per evening, which is about six hours a night, giving them more time during the day to achieve all their goals.
Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Tauruses are notoriously loyal, reliable and pragmatic. It’s their happy place. But they can also get a bad rap for being self-indulgent and among those indulgences comes a love of sleep - up to nine hours, to be exact.
Gemini (May 21 - June 21)
is the sign of the twins, which is how many define this Air sign, as it often seems like two or more personalities are alive inside one Gemini. They are adaptable, curious, and distracted. They hate commitment and have about 45 ideas in their head at all times. Due to this bouncy personality, they are an extremely social sign and fear missing out on a good party. Because of this, the Gemini will sacrifice sleep in the name of a fun time. Really, no one knows how the Gemini will be on any given day and how much sleep they will need.
Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Cancers are known for being emotional and sensitive - and they need their kip to help balance out all those emotions. There's nothing a cancer loves more than a cosy bed - so aim for at least eight hours, with the odd nap thrown in for good measure.
Leo (July 23 - August 22)
Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Libra (September 23 - October 22)
People-pleasing Libras give so much to other people. They’re good listeners, solid friends, reliable colleagues and kind family members. But they can only serve this function in people’s lives when they get the sleep that they need. Because of that, a Libra should try and have between seven and eight hours of sleep as much as they can. This will be their chance to recharge their batteries and fill up the tank for another day of being everyone’s support network.
Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)
Those born under Scorpio are passionate, jealous, opinionated and courageous - all qualities which can make them seem quite intense.
Sleep is an unusual one for Scorpio as while it's vital for their wellbeing they can find it hard to drift off. When they do they often enter deep sleep immediately and have intense dream cycles, occasionally even going lucid.
A recommendation for Scorpio is for at least eight hours where possible.
Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
The motto of the Sagittarius? Go big or go home. You tend to prioritise your waking hours over those you spend asleep, so in moments of adventure or when planning something big you're happy to get by on just five or six hours - but prefer eight when you're in more of a routine.
Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)
Serious and measured, a Capricorn knows that the right amount of sleep to have is the most amount of sleep. Which means that they’re an eight hour a night kind of people, and will probably have a nightly sleep ritual that they work through before nodding off, too. Capricorns love being regimented, so they often stick to the same bedtime every evening, with their alarm going off at the same time every morning. Capricorns sure are predictable, aren’t they? But that’s what we love about them.
