Crystal Profile: Amethyst

We're doing a deep dive into the healing world of crystals. We've been sharing a profile for each of our favourite crystals, so you can learn how and when to use them.

The enchanting mix of red-violet to deep violet shades of amethyst has captivated people to its pure energy for centuries. Amethyst is one of the most commonly-known crystals and a focal point of many collections.

Let's take a deeper look at this lavender-hued gem to find out why it's such a beautiful crystal to have in your home.

How is it formed?

Amethyst is a variety of quartz, much like Rose Quartz. From the outside amethyst looks like a humble stone, but it hold its beauty within. There's not really enough research to show how amethyst forms, leaving us fascinated and enchanted with its mystery.

What are its benefits?

Amethyst is healing crystal, as it brings awareness to our bodies. As it is connected to our third eye, amethyst provides us clarity in perception. You will find amethyst in our Happiness Crystal Set, due to its soothing energy. It creates a stillness in your mind for meditation, as it balances our right and left side of our brains. Amethyst energy may also aid in the relief of anxiety and stress, when paired with meditation practices.

How do you use it?

We recommended using amethyst in any form of meditation, to help focus and provide clarity. Simply place the stone in your hand to be centre and present. You can also place amethyst in any workplace to help engage the mind in deep work.

Did you know...

Although Amethyst is only classed as a semi-precious stone now, it was once highly sought after, more valuable that sapphires or rubies.

The name 'amethyst’ translates to ‘non-intoxicate’ in ancient Greek. What's more, in Ancient Greece, they believed that if one drank wine from a goblet made of amethyst, it would prevent you from drunkenness and overindulgence.
