Sleeping With The Enemy?

‘Fragrance’, ‘Parfum’ aka Chemicals

Check almost any shampoo, cosmetic item, cleaning product or laundry detergent in your home. If it says ‘fragrance’ or ‘parfum’, it can represent up to 3,000 plus, different ingredients. That’s 3,000 mysterious chemicals you could be exposed to everyday that are absorbed right into your bloodstream... Kind of frightening, right? Especially when you think most of us wash our bedding in this stuff!  Effectively surrounding ourselves in synthetic fragrance while our bodies try to rest and recover overnight.

The Dangers of Synthetic Fragrances

If you’re like us, you make an effort to eat organic when you can, try to minimise the processed sugary foods you eat, and try to maintain a regular exercise routine. But how often to do you stop to think about the harmful chemicals you’re exposed to everyday at home?
Countless research, has linked different fragrance chemicals to the dangers they cause. Less serious dangers include symptoms like allergies and respiratory distress, headaches, dizziness, nausea and brain fog. More serious dangers include: cancer, autism, birth defects, allergic reactions and respiratory problems such as asthma...Yikes.

Better Alternatives to Synthetic Fragrances

We hope we haven't scared you off to now frantically be running around checking labels, and throwing out all items that have fragrance or parfum written on them...
If you're still with us reading on, there is some good news.. You can protect yourself and your family from the dangers of synthetic fragrances fairly simply:
  1. Avoid purchasing products that list: fragrance, parfum, phthalate, DEP, DBP, DEHP, limonene or linalool on their labels (what even are those words and letters - we aren't sure)
  2. Rather choose products that use essential oils
  3. Make homemade natural cleaning products when necessary
